Faith in Action for Children

Interfaith Prayer With Children In the Wake of the COVID-19 Pandemic

22 April 2020

A day of Prayer for children affected with Nodding Syndrome in Uganda.

The Acholi Religious Leaders Peace Initiative in partnership with the African Council of Religious Leaders- Religions for Peace (ACRL—RfP) is set to conduct the Day of Prayer and Action for children affected by the nodding syndrome  in Pader, Kitgum and Lamwo districts in Northern Uganda.

Religious leaders have fully supported this initiative; they agreed to use this day to sensitize and mobilize the public on the need to control nodding disease by informing and educating the community.   It is expected that a communal prayer will be held in the homes of the affected families. The spiritual leaders will also visit the special wards of the children affected by the syndrome to pray and give hope to the affected families.

With the biting poverty, coupled with the inattentiveness or inability of caregivers to respond adequately, the day of prayer will offer moral support to the affected families by providing basic needs. The families will be supplied with cereals, powder milk and other nutritional foods to families that are unable to bear the difficult burden.
