Salesians to Support the World Day of Prayer and Action for Children

The Salesians of Don Bosco, a world-wide Roman Catholic religious order, has called on all its members to unite in celebrating the World Day of Prayer and Action for Children, an initiative promoted by the Global Network of Religions for Children.

In a letter addressed to Salesian chapters worldwide, the order's Rector Major, Fr. Pascual Chávez, said that "only if religious leaders and all of us join together in our efforts will it be possible to respond adequately to the dramatic and massive violations to the dignity and to the fundamental rights of children in the world." The letter is available in five languages on the sdb.org site and in the Service Section of ANS www.infoans.org.

The Salesian Society is the third largest missionary organization in the world, counting some 20,000 members in 130 countries. Its mission is to care for children and young people and promote human rights education. More information on the Salesian work in the human rights area is available on the Platform www.donbosco-humanrights.org.

The eight Salesian NGOs, coordinated by the Don Bosco Network, also published the message of the Rector Mayor on the website www.donbosconetwork.org. One of the NGOs, VIS, is promoting the Day of Prayer and Action in all the countries where it is present (www.volint.it).
