In the occupied Palestinian territory, UNICEF supports the strengthening of child protection systems for the provision of services for children, particularly those who are at risk of violence, exploitation and abuse. In this context, and linked with the Day of Prayer and Action for Children, activities included three awareness-raising sessions for some 80 Muslim religious leaders in Gaza. The sessions, convened by the Palestinian Centre for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, provided an opportunity to familiarise Imams with key messages on child protection and to engage them in promoting child rights, specifically positive discipline and the prevention of child labour and child neglect. During the sessions, future collaboration with Child Protection Network partners was discussed to raise community awareness on child rights for positive social change. Imams who participated in the sessions agreed to disseminate child rights messages at the Friday prayers at their respective Mosques.
