Who Celebrates the World Day?
World Day Observance in Mozambique
In Mozambique, with UNICEF support, the Civil Society Network for Child Rights and the Religious Council of Mozambique signed an agreement and plan of action on behalf of all religious groups, which is aimed at protecting child rights and working collectively to promote behavior change to prevent abuse, child marriage, HIV/AIDS, early pregnancy, malnutrition and to promote birth registration and alternative care to orphans. This agreement signifies a crucial step towards the systematic involvement of religious groups as defenders of children’s rights in Mozambique. The plan of action also calls for a televised discussion featuring the role of the Civil Society Network for Child Rights and the Religious Council of Mozambique in protecting and promoting child rights. Together with the Religious Council of Mozambique, UNICEF will develop Christian and Muslim materials for religious leaders to share within their parishes and mosques on a weekly basis to promote discussion of children’s rights.
