Who Celebrates the World Day?
Faith-based organizations promoting children’s rights in religious ceremonies nationwide
Mozambique: Faith-based organizations promoting children’s rights in religious ceremonies nationwide November 2014.
To celebrate the 25th CRC Anniversary and the World Day of Prayer and Action (20 November), UNICEF Mozambique in partnership with the Government of Mozambique (Ministry of Women and Social Action) and the Interfaith Council of Religions of Mozambique (COREM) prepared key messages (“comunicado de púlpito”) for faith-based organizations to share and engage with around 2000 congregations from 21 – 23 November. This activity is part of broader UNICEF Mozambique engagement with faith-based organizations, ongoing since 2011. In 2013/2014, UNICEF Mozambique developed in a participatory way, a guide for Faith-Based Organizations (Guião dos Líderes Religiosos – para a promoção da Saúde, Educação e Protecção da Criança) comprised of key messages on health, education and child protection, as well as biblical & koranic passages to reinforce the messages. During roll out sessions in November, faith-based organizations are being trained on how to use the manual in their services and awareness creation sessions at community level in 4 provinces of the country, in partnership with the Government of Mozambique (Ministry of Health) and the Interfaith Council of Religions of Mozambique (COREM).
