El pasado viernes 20 de Noviembre, en el marco del XX aniversario de la Convención de los Derechos de los Niños, en la Universidad del Rosario de la ciudad de Bogotá, nos reunimos adultos y jóvenes de las comunidades de Fe que participan del comité gestor de la GNRC Colombia, para tener una jornada de oración a favor de la infancia.

Desde las 9 de la mañana, se inició la jornada con una bienvenida a los participantes y la presentación del coro “Voces para la esperanza” de Visión Mundial. Unas voces que le cantan a la paz y a la esperanza desde el deseo de los niños y niñas que son beneficiarios de la gestión que hace Visión Mundial en Colombia.

Con la participación de la iglesia Católica en representación de la Conferencia Episcopal y el CELAM; la iglesia Metodista, Anglicana, Menonita, el Centro de Estudios teológicos y de las Religiones de la Universidad del Rosario CETRE; y las comunidades budista tibetana, musulmana, y bahai’, transcurrió la mañana con la conferencia de la doctora Luz Alcira Granada, miembro del comité que creó la Ley de Infancia en Colombia, la cual incluye 44 artículos a favor de la garantía de los derechos de los niños y niñas.

Este fue un espacio para reflexionar acerca de la realidad de los niños en nuestro país, y la manera como las leyes han sido cambiadas, con el propósito de proteger a la infancia colombiana. No obstante, las leyes no cambian la realidad por sí mismas, y fue el momento para aclarar nuestras dudas acerca del seguimiento que se le hace a los problemas estructurales que enfrentan nuestros niños y niñas.

En la jornada de la tarde, abrimos el espacio para que las comunidades de Fe hablaran de sus proyectos con infancia; pero especialmente, para que hicieran una oración por los niños y niñas. Fue un momento particularmente emotivo, porque compartimos el deseo de que nuestros niños tengan un mundo mejor, con plegarias y textos de nuestras distintas tradiciones.

Cerramos la conmemoración, con la presentación de un video hecho por algunos jóvenes de la GNRC Colombia, con la participación de dos adultos miembros del comité gestor de la GNRC que nos colaboraron para poder hacer la grabación.

Finalmente, nada mejor que una oración conjunta por la niñez, capaz de fortalecer los puentes de tolerancia entre todas las religiones…por un mejor mundo, y por la dignidad de todos los niños y niñas.

Day of Prayer and Action for Children Colombia

On last Friday, 20 November, on the occasion of the XX anniversary of the Convention of Children’s Rights, at the University del Rosario in the city of Bogota, we convened adults and children from the communities of Faith that participate in the administrative committee of GNRC Colombia, for a day of prayer for children.

At 9 in the morning the day began with a welcome to the participants and the presentation of the chorus, “Voices for hope” from World Vision. Voices that sing to peace and hope from the wishes of children that are beneficiaries of the work World Vision does in Colombia.

With the participation of the Catholic Church, in representation of the Episcopal Conference and CELAM; the Methodist, Anglican, and Mennonite churches, the Center for Theological Studies and the Religions of the Universidad del Rosario CETRE; and the Tibetan Buddhist, Muslim and bahai’, the morning was occupied with the conference of Dr. Luz Alcira Granada, member of the committee that created the Colombian Children’s Law, which includes 44 articles favoring the guarantee of children’s rights.

This was a space for reflecting on the reality of children in our country, and how the laws have been changed, for the purpose of protecting Colombian children. However, the laws do not change reality by themselves, and it was also a moment to clarify our doubts regarding the follow-up that is given to structural problems facing our children.

In the afternoon, we opened a space for Faith committees to speak of their children’s projects; especially to pray for the children. It was a particularly emotional moment, because we shared the desire that our children should have a better world, with prayers and readings of our different traditions.

We closed the commemoration with the presentation of a video, made by some of the youths of GNRC Colombia, with the participation of two adult members of the GNRC administrative committee, who helped us make the recording. Finally, nothing better than a joint prayer for children, capable of strengthening the bridges of tolerance among all religions for a better world, and for the dignity of all children everywhere.
