Break the Silence: Religious leaders make a commitment to Stop Violence against Children: Kisumu County, Kenya
The World Day of Prayer and Action for Children activity will be held in Kisumu Town. Religious leaders and children from participating schools will be mobilized to attend the one day event. The event will involve speeches by the religious leaders and performances by children from selected schools. The theme of the DPAC event is “Renewing our commitment to stop violence against children”.
The event will also bring together government officials from relevant government ministries and representatives from child rights NGOs and CBOs. On this day both religious leaders and their congregations will reaffirm their commitments to protect children against violence. During the event Peace and Ethics Education Clubs will be launched in selected schools. Through the Peace and Ethics Education Clubs school children and teachers will be engaged in efforts to stop violence against children in their schools and communities.
To promote interfaith dialogue in addressing violence against children, religious leaders coming from different faiths will participate in the event together with children, youths, and civil society organizations from different parts of Kisumu Town.
