Kites for Peace

A creative children-led response to violence against children in conflict areas around the world, this project started in the Philippines and is now a global collaboration. This aims to be the biggest simultaneous kite-flying activity since Gaza’s 13,000.

Activity Recap

Mindanao Week of Peace is an annual, nationwide gathering all over the Philippines to celebrate peace efforts for Mindanao, the south of the country which has been ravaged by conflict for many decades. This year, from November 24- December 3, kites were flown in Quezon City and all over 5 provinces of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao resulting to an estimate of about 50,000 kites. The kites were also flown to support the World Day of Prayer and Action for Children held last November 20.

In ARMM, representatives from the Philippine Government, Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Department of Education, and several CSOs were present to fly kites with the children.
