UNICEF Mauritania planned activities with Religous Communities

The UNICEF country office is spearheading activities to raise awareness about child rights and highlight key national priorities for children, particularly exclusive breastfeeding, birth registration and the abandonment of corporal punishment. Partners include UN agencies, government ministries and the National Forum for Child Rights. Activities will include: the distribution of 2000 copies of the new religious ruling (Fatwa) on corporal punishment to religious and secular schools throughout the country; workshops for imams and religious teachers on the value of exclusive breastfeeding; a  national media campaign to promote exclusive breastfeeding thorough community radio and the national mass media; the dedication of Friday prayers in all the country’s mosques to themes of child rights and health.
