World Day Observance in South Sudan

In South Sudan, World Day of Prayer and Action for Children celebrations aimed at generating increased awareness of children’s rights, and in particular to push for commitment to ending child marriage and a call for action for the Government to ratify the CRC now that South Sudan a fully independent country and a member of the United Nations. Main participants included religious and traditional leaders, parliamentarians, policy makers and opinion leaders. Activities included: orientation seminars for religious leaders for them to raise awareness of issues relevant to women and children; a round table discussion; a photo exhibition by children on “Children’s Rights;” and radio Q&A and talk shows. UNICEF developed a press release for local, regional, and international media platforms as well as social media sites.
