World Day Observance in Uganda

In Uganda, World Day of Prayer and Action for Children activities took place on 17 September around the theme “Zero Violence in Schools.” This campaign was successfully launched with the Minister for Education and Sports as well as the Chief Justice, who made an urgent appeal to pass amended “Children Act” legislation that will expand the protection of Uganda’s children, including in schools. The Government is reviewing and refining these amendments, one of which will make corporal punishment in schools a criminal act. Through the concerted efforts of Government, UNICEF, and partners, the amended legislation is close to being finalized and passed. A brief video of the event can be seen here: here.
