World Day of Prayer and Action in Isiolo

With the support and participation of Isiolo Women of Faith, GNRC Kenya celebrated the day of prayer and action in Pepo La Tumaini Jangwani – a center for girls rescued from early marriages and commercial work.

Activity Recap

The World Day of Prayer and Action for Children was celebrated in Isiolo on 29th Nov 2014.
The day which was organized by Isiolo Women of Faith with support from Arigatou
International, brought together faith-based organizations and all organizations that work in
the interest of children.

In Isiolo, faith based organizations, institutions working for children in Isiolo and other
invited guests converged at Pepo La Tumaini to draw attention to problems faced by children
in Isiolo county. The Pepo La Tumaini is a rescue center for girls rescued from early
marriages and commercial sex work.

During the event, women expressed optimism and hope that children rights to enjoy
privileges will not be underpinned. “Improving access to education for both girls and boys and eliminating gender gaps in education are important ways of ending the practice of child marriage,” said Khadija Omar, Executive Director of Pepo la Tumaini and a member of Isiolo Women of Faith.

Pepo la Tumaini is also a home to children orphaned by HIV/AIDS, who are traumatized and need special care. During the DPAC celebration, their plight too was shared and highlighted.
