Who Celebrates the World Day?
Our Future, Our Rights – Youth Rising #UpForSchool
This youth rally and petition launch will gather Nobel Peace Prize winner Kailash Satyarthi, 2014 WISE Prize winner for Education Ann Cotton, Overseas Development Institute Executive Director Kevin Watkins, and young campaigners from all over the world to celebrate twenty-five years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
In the spirit of World Day for Prayer and Action for Children, Our Future, Our Rights – Youth Rising #UpForSchool aims to push child rights higher up the international agenda, to see real changes to international law, and to get every child to school no matter who they are or where they are born.
The rally at the Southbank Centre will also mark the London launch of the #UpForSchool Petition, which demonstrates the unprecedented public support for education and an end to discrimination against children. Backed by over one hundred businesses, faith leaders, NGOs, teachers, and influential individuals, this petition will be put before the United Nationals General Assembly in 2015, calling for the universal right to education.
