Activity Recap

In Santo Domingo, an interfaith breakfast for religious and spiritual leaders of the country took place on the 28th of November. The event, organized by the GNRC together with the NGO Coalition for Children (a network of 32 NGOs who work for the promotion and protection of the rights of the children in the country), focused on positive parenting.

The main objective of the event was to reaffirm the religious leaders’ commitment with the prevention of violence against children, particularly corporal punishment within the families.

The GNRC and the NGO Coalition for Children have actively participated in this process, helping include the religious leaders in the consultations for the elaboration of the Roadmap.

Towards the end of the event, Ms. Eric Gómez, current Coordinator of the GNRC in the Dominican Republic, invited the leaders to take a moment to complete a questionnaire that the GNRC had prepared with the aim of committing the religious and spiritual leaders to take action for the elimination of violence within the homes.

The last part of the breakfast was an interfaith spiritual moment, where one representative of each religion-faith-spiritual tradition read a sacred text on the topic of positive parenting.
